The woman, a healthcare worker anonymously dubbed ’Texas Woman,’ purchased a 50X The Cash scratch-off at Govans Marathon at 5101 York Road in Baltimore. She'd recently moved back from Texas, where her best lottery win was just $500.
The woman stopped by the store to cash in a winning crossword scratcher and ended up purchasing the second-tier prizewinning ticket for $10 alongside a Loteria for $3, she tells officials.
After taking the tickets home and scratching $50,000 worth of success on the 50X The Cash, ‘Texas Woman’ first called her sister to share the shocking news.
“I said, ‘Are you joking with me?’” the winner’s big sister told officials as she accompanied her sibling to lottery headquarters to claim the prize. “I came over there with my Lottery app to check the ticket…I danced around for her.”
“It was fate,” said the winner, who plans to spend her prize to “get my credit right and buy a car.”
The 50X The Cash game went on sale in January with 10 $100,000 top prizes and 10 $50,000 second-tier prizes. Seven prizes remain unclaimed at both prize levels. A member of an X The Cash family of games, players can enter non-winning X The Cash instant tickets into a second-chance promotion to try to win prizes ranging from $50,000 to $75,000. Four drawings remain, with the next entry deadline being April 1.
